Janet Austin, who worked for more than three years as the club secretary, was named the new president.
She takes over from Peter Edwards.
Mrs Austin said she was humbled by her new appointment.
“It’s an honour to be nominated to do the job and I look forward to building the club up and continue the good work in Cobram,” she said.
Mrs Austin has spent a decade with the Cobram Lions; however, she has been part of the greater Lions organisation for much longer.
She said she joined to give back to the community.
“To do community work. To help other people, and you’re involved in a big organisation which does a lot of work to help out a lot of people,” Mrs Austin said.
The dinner was also a chance to highlight the great work the club has done over the past 12 months.
This work included giving a total of $14,257 to local organisations and members of community.
Of particular note was the growth of the Cobram Lions Market, which has seen an expansion in stall holders and the number of people attending, as well as the success of the Cobram Lions youth programs.
Mrs Austin said the Cobram group was always looking for new members.
“(You get) Friendship and the knowledge that you are helping raise money to give back to the community. Just seeing the smiles and the appreciation of members of the community you help makes everything worth it,” she said.
“It is a rewarding experience. We are a happy, friendly crew and you do get trained in skills. You get out what you put in.”
