Two local businesses who have a long association with the Deni Ute Muster were honoured this year for their commitment to the long-standing event.

Tyndall Electrical and Deni Civil & Construction were each presented with certificates of recognition for “a true community champion of the Deni Ute Muster”.
Known colloquially as the Muster Champion awards, they were awarded by Muster board members John Mulham and Robert Hallum, respectively, during last Friday’s chairman’s reception.
When introducing his pick for Muster Champion, Mr Mulham said John Tyndall and his team were an integral part of the Ute Muster machine.
“I have found it interesting how you can have a million moving parts and put them all together and make it into a Muster; it’s quite remarkable.
“Another thing I did notice is that you only notice those moving parts when they’re not working properly.
“One of those million moving parts is the electricity out here.
“In the last 20 years, we’ve been so lucky to have great relationships with John Tyndall and Tyndall Electrical.
“He’s brought to the Muster a great professionalism, he’s brought enthusiasm, and he just gets it done.
“He gets more done than he is paid for, and he does it without any fuss at all.
“And then you turn around and the job’s finished.”
As the board member in charge of the site and “working in the trenches”, Mr Hallum said he’s often had to call on Mick and Robyn Thorpe from Deni Civil and Construction for assistance.
And he said they’re always right there when you need them.
“There are all these people around you that you never get to see, doing work that creates this event.
“We have all these guys who help us out to create this through the year, and Mick Thorpe is one of these guys who just says ‘we gotta get this done’ and does it.
“It is a huge family effort led by Mick and Robyn Thorpe.
“In 2016 when it was all sludge out here, all you would see is truck after truck of Deni Civil bringing in gravel just to get the job done.
“Every year it is a hard job to decide who gets to be Muster Champion because there are a lot of people who put in, but this year it had to go to Mick and Robyn.”
