By the end of this financial year, the volunteer group will have distributed more than $95,000 to fellow locals to help them during their cancer journey.
Patient liaison officer Bianca Armytage said this would not have been possible without support from the community, who are again being asked to donate if they can.
Donations made by June 30 this year may count a deduction on your taxes this year.
“Can Assist helps cancer patients by tailoring financial assistance to meet individual needs,” Mrs Armytage said.
“This can be by providing financial aid such as accommodation expenses, medical expenses like pharmaceutical costs, travel costs and fuel, community transport, eligible household expenses such as electricity bills, rates notices and even groceries.
“Regardless of the type of cancer, regardless of your financial situation, we’re here to help.
“The application process is easy and stays confidential.”
The community’s reliance on Can Assist for support grows each year, with this year’s allocation of funds representing an increase of almost $10,000 on the last financial year.
The $86,000 distributed last financial year was an increase of $17,000 on the previous 12 months.
“Can Assist’s vision is for every country community, family and individual to have equitable access to cancer care and support services,” Mrs Armytage said.
