The proceeds from the annual Campspe region charity bowls round last month, Deniliquin Bowling Club president Steve O’Brien said this is the second year the club has decided on Deniliquin Can Assist as the recipient.
He said the charity was chosen because of its local reach, including to one or more of the Denilqiuin Bowling Club’s bowlers and members.
Mr O’Brien said the amount donated includes green fees from competition day, and proceeds of a raffle held by the club.
Deniliquin Can Assist committee member Bianca Armytage said the group was “grateful” for the club’s generosity.
“That money can be used to help someone with out-of-pocket expenses for scans or medications, accommodation, fuel costs to appointments or even pharmacy bills.
“Everyone’s situation is different, so it could help with a range of things - it depends on what the person is finding hardest.
“It’s an incredible donation, and we’re extremely grateful because every dollar helps, and it all helps local people.
“We also encourage anyone who has a cancer diagnosis to reach out and speak to us about how we can help.”
Deniliquin Can Assist is currently supporting more than 50 people who have been diagnosed with cancer.
It brings the number of people to receive assistance since the 2017 formation of the local group to almost 200.
In the last financial year, Can Assist administered $86,000 in support funding. It was an increase of $17,000 on the previous 12 months.
