The chop took place Saturday during the Blighty Football and Netball Club’s round against Yarroweyah at Blighty Recreation Reserve.
Ruby had been growing her hair for two years, and what was removed will be sent to Wigs 4 Kids to be made into wigs for young cancer patients.
Ruby’s mother Casey Gordon said it was a fantastic day, which also had a great fundraising result.
“The total tally so far, roughly, is over $4500 and still growing as final numbers roll in,” she said.
“Hopefully we will have final numbers by the end of next week.”
Helping boost the tally was fellow Redeye Julian Bassett, who sacrificed his own locks on the day.
He parted with his famous mullet after spectators pledged $1000 to Ruby’s total.
Given the honour of wielding the scissors on Saturday was Sharyn McKenzie from SRM Northside Hair and Beauty.
On behalf of Ruby and the rest of the family, Mrs Gordon thanked everyone who supported Ruby’s Big Chop 4 Kids With Cancer.
“We would like to thank those who have donated, the Blighty Football and Netball Club and president Rhys Tremble for his support,” she said.
“Thanks also to Sharyn McKenzie from SRM Northside Hair and Beauty for all the time spent preparing and doing the chop, and Julian Bassett for joining in to help Ruby raise more funds for a great cause.”
