On the Leeton to Echcua leg of the rally, 101 rally cars and more than 300 participants of the annual charity car rally stopped in for a locally sponsored lunch at Conargo Public School.
During their visit, the ‘Bashers’ presented the primary school with a grant of $5,225 to cover the cost of a new sand pit and soft fall surface for the school’s new ninja course.
An additional $1300 was raised by the school from a raffle that was supported by a number of Deniliquin businesses.
The lucky students at Conargo were also treated to an “overwhelming array” of lollies and gifts supplied by the school’s special guests.
Whip cracking, the Amazing Super Hubert’s Magic Show and a teamwork and wellbeing workshop administered by the Life Changers team were also part of the day.
And of course the Bash participants dressed as some beloved characters to add to the entertainment for both staff and students.
After lunch, Conargo teacher Kylie Charlton said a few of the Bashers tested out the school’s new sandpit and ninja course.
“Some were more agile than others, and some required the help of our students to show them how to tackle the warped wall,” she said.
“Conargo Public School would like to thank the Variety Club, Bash participants, local volunteers who helped with catering and all of the local Deni businesses who donated food and raffle prizes.
“This community spirit made for some amazing memories for our students, as well as supporting a wonderful event that promotes community engagement and fundraising for worthwhile causes.”
After leaving Conargo, the Variety Bash travelled through Deniliquin on their way to Echuca.
They made pit stops at Mathoura and Bunnaloo the same day.
On Wednesday, the rally continued on to Narrandera, Murrumburrah, and then on to Goulburn yesterday.
The Bashers will continue on to visit Tirranna, Thirlmere, St Marys and Newcastle today and tomorrow to complete the trip.
