Crs Roberta Horne and Bernard Gaffney have confirmed to The Free Press they will seek re-election to Indigo Shire Council.
Current mayor Sophie Price and Cr Diane Shepheard have registered as candidates.
Cr Peter Croucher, who has served 12 years on council, will not seek re-election. “I’ve done my penance and I just think it’s time to finish up – I’m not going to be a Joe Biden,” the Kiewa-Tangambalanga resident said.
Emphasising the word ‘have’, Cr Horne’s message to voters is: “Yes, I am running - I have to!”
She was first elected in 2012, running her Re Route Rutherglen campaign in 2016 but not returned.
“I continued on with my advocacy efforts throughout the next term (2016-2020) arranging community meetings etcetera and was voted back in 2020 to 2024,” Cr Horne said.
After conversations with friends and associates, Cr Bernard Gaffney will seek re-election. “I’ve really enjoyed council and there’s still a lot more to achieve but I’m really pleased with results I’ve achieved,” the five-term mayor in his 15 years on council said.
“I enjoy working with the community and the lots of hard working volunteers we have. I feel the need to continue.”
Candidates for councillor, which opened on Monday, September 9, closed at 12 noon yesterday (Tuesday, September 17) with the Victorian Electoral Commission.
