Rex Airlines broke its news on Tuesday night.
Its website says regional routes would continue for now, but that all routes to capital cities had been cancelled immediately.
Those with flights books will be able to reschedule their flights with Virgin Airlines for free.
The other, announced yesterday, was Billson’s in Beechworth.
“The brewery has stood proud for over 150 years and has undoubtedly faced many other perilous times,” the current owners said.
“The challenges we’ve encountered in 2024 have been vast and incomprehensible in scale.
“We will do everything possible to work through this, so Billson’s can emerge more resilient as a business and ready to take on another century.”
Land offered to Campaspe
Campaspe Shire Council is looking to buy the old Echuca High School land site from the Victorian Department of Education to use for its Vic Park master plan.
The site at 42 Crofton St includes nine parcels of land for a total size of 4.2ha.
It was home to the Echuca High School from 1903 to 2005, when the school merged with the former Echuca Secondary College to create Echuca College in 2006.
The estimated cost of buying the land is about $150,000, and was recently offered to Campaspe Shire Council by the Department of Education through a First Right of Refusal disposal process.
If the purchase is successful, a proposed sports and recreation facility has been discussed, aligned with AFL seniors and juniors, cricket and rugby field guidelines.
A 130 m2 facility has also been proposed, including change rooms, showers, accessible toilets, a canteen and umpires’ and first aid rooms.
Jobe’s footy honour
Moama’s Jobe Shanahan has earned a major honour, as he accelerates towards the 2024 AFL Draft.
Shanahan was selected in the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships Under-18 Boys All-Australian team, after impressive performances for Allies throughout the competition.
Shanahan, named centre half-forward in the All-Australian side, averaged 12.3 disposals, 1.3 goals and 5.5 marks per contest in his four games for Allies.
His campaign was highlighted by a 16-disposal, three-goal, nine-mark explosion in the final game against Victoria Country.
Listed at 194cm, Shanahan used his height to good effect, leading the championship in contested marks with eight.
