The donation was designed to ensure all students receive the best learning opportunities.
Each year the Lions Club assists Tocumwal schools with money raised from local fundraising endeavours supported by the community.
Meanwhile, the annual Lions Junior Public Speaking competition is again under way with the club level completed.
The zone final will be held at Finley on August 11.
A new project for the club this year is the Lions International Peace Poster Contest which will be run in conjunction with the Finley Show.
With community support, the club has also been able to collect and send more than 5kg of used postage stamps.
Funds raised from the sale of stamps are donated to the Australian Lions Children's Mobility Foundation.
Used postage stamps, as well as old spectacles and hearing aids, can be left in the blue collection bin at March's IGA.
Echuca-Moama to honour Korean War veterans
Echuca-Moama will mark Korean Veterans' Day tomorrow with a short wreath-laying service at Moama RSL’s Memorial Garden at 11am.
Moama RSL sub-branch president Ken Jones said the service, which will be attended by local veterans from the Korean War, is an important opportunity for the community to pay its respects to those who served.
Mr Jones said July 27 is the 71st anniversary of the day in 1953 when an armistice was signed to end the fighting on the Korean peninsula.
“This day is a time for us to remember the almost 18,000 Australians who served in the war, including some 340 who lost their lives,” he said.
“The Korean War began on June 25, 1950, when the People’s Army of North Korea invaded South Korea, capturing its capital, Seoul, within days.
“The United Nations Security Council declared North Korea the aggressor and set up the UN Command, a joint force to support South Korea.
“Australia was one of 21 members of the UN to send military forces to help South Korea.”
Shepparton youth to shine in first-ever concert
The musical talents of Shepparton’s young people will be on display on Sunday at a free concert.
The Australian National Piano Awards Associates have organised the concert, which will showcase the musical talents of Shepparton’s young musicians.
Students from all stages of learning will take part.
One of Shepparton’s Australian National Piano Awards Associates, Ngaire Rikys, said the concert was an opportunity for the musicians to do something many of them would not have had the chance to do before.
“It gives them a chance to showcase their talents in front of an audience,” Mrs Rikys said.
The concert will also give the youngsters a chance to play on a Steinway piano, and the music performed will cover a wide range, from classical to modern.
The concert will be held at 2pm on Sunday, Riverlinks Eastbank in Shepparton.
No bookings are needed; people can just turn up on the day.
