There are some friendly new faces at Kyabram Fauna Park, but they are not furry and they can feed themselves.
Three new employees have joined the park’s team in recent months, ready to greet visitors when the facility reopens its doors.
Former school teacher Katelyn McIntyre has joined the team as education co-ordinator, with Ambrose Burcher and Brendan Dixon joining as reptile and invertebrate keepers.
Ambos keen to work
The St John Ambulance team members are hard to miss at events — their bright green uniform and ambulance signifying they are there to help.
But as events have continually been wiped off the calendar since the COVID-19 pandemic announced itself in early 2020, the Campaspe region’s team of volunteers has gone into hibernation.
Nevertheless, as restrictions look to ease over the coming months, the team is excited to meet up again and get back to training.
Saturday was World First Aid Day and St John divisional manager for the Campaspe region David Harris encouraged everyone to take up some level of first aid training.
Cricket coming up
Cricket season is fast approaching and the Benalla Bushrangers Cricket Club has been busy preparing for it.
With COVID-19 restricting training and possibly delaying a start to the new season, there is still plenty going on behind the scenes.
The club’s annual general meeting was held before the current COVID-19 restrictions.
Mark Saunders was re-elected as president, James Carboon becomes the new vice-president, and Ian Costello (a new player into the club last season) is the secretary.
Almost reunited
The weekend was one of relative freedoms for Echuca-Moama, as both sides of the river emerged from lockdown by Saturday; however, the twin towns will remain divided by Victoria’s strict border rules.
On Thursday night, regional Victoria — except for Greater Shepparton — was released from lockdown, but the only partial easing of restrictions means some businesses will remain shut.
The five reasons to leave home and the 5km travel limit have been scrapped, a freedom Murray residents can also enjoy from Saturday.
The easing of restrictions for most of regional NSW is greater than in Victoria, including allowing for gyms to reopen, all students to return to school, visitors to the home and less limitations on patron limits at businesses such as hospitality.
History preserved
Nagambie and District Historical Society will receive $11,408 to digitise The Nagambie Times as part of the Victorian
Government’s local history grants.
The program, run by Public Record Office Victoria, aims to support community and history organisations to preserve, record and share Victoria’s local history.
Nagambie and District Historical Society secretary Judy Macdonald said the society applied for the grant to have the microfilm of The
Nagambie Times digitised so it could be searched using the National Library of Australia’s Trove website.
