Mr Davis was welcomed as an Australian citizen at a small citizenship ceremony at the Peppin Heritage Centre on Tuesday morning.
In attendance were his wife Barb, Edward River Council general manager Phil Stone, Mayor Norm Brennan, Deputy Mayor Pat Fogarty and executive assistant Belinda Perrett.
Mr Davis, who grew up in Kent in south-east England, said he decided to become an Australian citizen simply because of how long he has been a permanent resident here.
‘‘I’ve been a permanent resident for a long time and all of my family are here, so I just thought it was time to get it done,’’ he said.
‘‘My two sons have grown up here and now have four grandkids under four, the most recent one coming into the world on Sunday.
‘‘I originally came to Australia as a backpacker and then I met my wife (Barb) here in Deni.
‘‘We flew back to England and lived there for 10 years, but then came back.
‘‘Now we’ve been back for 30 years and it truly is home to me.
‘‘I would like to thank my sponsor Dot Murphy for helping me throughout the process of becoming an Australian citizen.’’
The ceremony was concluded with coffee and cake, shared by the small group of attendees.
