Alice attended the four-day Riverina Drama Camp in June at Borambola Sport and Recreation Centre in Borambola..
It was the first camp since pre-COVID, with the previous two years cancelled.
All students who attend a NSW Public High School in the Riverina Region in years 8-11 were welcome to nominate.
The camp provides students with intense play-building sessions and a diverse range of performance skill-development workshops, all delivered by specialised professional tutors.
The students are put into groups and work with the tutors to develop their own works.
The week culminates with a showcase performance at Wagga Wagga High School.
Alice’s group developed a play called ‘Killing Time’, a work about the lack of time faced by people in their everyday life around work and family.
From their performance they were selected to perform at this year’s NSW Public Schools State Drama Festival.
Alice is excited about performing although rehearsing has been a challenge.
“As the group is made up of students from different Riverina High Schools, the challenge has been getting together for rehearsals,” she said.
“The group has been rehearsing once a week via Zoom and our first rehearsal together in person since the camp will be on Wednesday while we are travelling together on the bus,” she continued.
Alice will be performing at the 2022 NSW Public Schools State Drama Festival Rebound, celebrating the return of classroom drama achievements.
It will be held on Thursday, October 20 and Friday, October 21, at the Seymour Centre with more than 800 students participating from across the state.
Matinee and evening shows will be held on both days that Alice will perform in.
Alice will also be taking part in a National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) workshop and will see the play ‘Looking for Alibrandi’ that is currently being performed at the Belvoir St Theatre.
She is looking forward to all of the opportunities. “I’m excited about the trip to Sydney and I am looking forward to the performances. It will be great to experience the festival and to have the opportunity to learn more about the drama industry,” she continued.
“I feel it will inspire me to continue to further develop my performance skills.”
