The town tree came down in just a few hours yesterday, which was far quicker than it took to get up and looking fabulous.
The tree stood tall in the CBD for just over a month and was the perfect way to put the town in the right spirits.
The smaller Christmas trees decorated by local schools which were on display around the CBD have also been dismantled, and the frames all put away in storage for next year.
We might now start to see visitor numbers drop a little - until Australia Day rolls around - but the summer action is only really just beginning for the local community.
Most of the community’s school holiday programs will only start to resume from this week, including the Intrereach vacation care program.
Deni Playgroup is also back this week, and next week the Deniliquin Baptist Church will present its Wonder Club program for primary school aged children.
Baby Bounce is back
The Edward River Library’s Baby Bounce program is a wonderful opportunity for parents and caregivers to bond with their little ones while also promoting early literacy skills.
The program resumes for 2024 from 11am today.
The program offers a range of songs and nursery rhymes to help babies and toddlers develop communication and reading skills.
The friendly and relaxed environment allows parents to connect with other caregivers in the community while enjoying quality time with their children.
The program is suitable for children aged zero to four years old and provides a fun and engaging way to help your child learn and grow.
Double feature tonight
If you’re back at work or studying ahead of the school year starting back and missing out on the summer fun, never fear.
There are some night time holiday activities on offer too, specifically Edward River Council’s free movie screenings in the Deni Town Hall.
The second of three double features will be held tonight.
You can catch the Super Mario Bros Movie, based on the popular Nintendo game, at 5pm.
Or at 7.30pm is the Aussie cult classic The Castle, which is rated M.
The Town Hall’s doors open half an hour before each screening, and a refreshment stand will be available. BYO drinks or food is not allowed.
Children 11 and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
There is no reserved seating, and all are welcome.
Sunday sizzlers
Many of us have been feeling the heat lately with the high temperatures, however you may have felt the sun had little extra sting on Sunday.
And you would be right.
Temperatures on Sunday reached a high of 37ºC, which was vastly different to the high of 24ºC we had the previous Sunday.
The mercury will dip back down below 30ºC for much of this week, with possible showers today and a possible thunderstorm tomorrow.
Today there is a 70 per cent chance of between 5mm to 10mm, and tomorrow there’s an 80 per cent chance of up to 5mm.
The temperatures will slowly rise again toward the weekend, with another 36ºC day prediction for Sunday.
As summer holidays are still in full swing, it is important to check temperature prediction and UV levels before heading out for a day on the river or some time outside.
Remember to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and take breaks in the shade to avoid heat exhaustion or other heat-related illnesses.
