Auxiliary chair Mari Drennan confirmed the sale made “well over” $8000, despite a number of the items donated not being sold.
All proceeds will be donated to provide further comfort and quality of living for Navorina Aged Care residents.
The garage sale was held in the Napier St shed owned by auxiliary member Dol Pollard and her husband Roger.
Mrs Pollard said supporting the fundraiser was the barbecue cooked by her husband, which kept bargain hunters sustained while rummaging through the numerous items on offer.
There was also a plant sale, which did very well, as well as cakes and slices.
“It was a really successful weekend; the community rallied and really supported us,” Mrs Pollard said.
“We decided to host the sale over two days this year instead of just one, and people seemed to appreciate that.
“We were quite surprised and pleased with the amount raised, especially considering how reasonably priced everything was.”
Mrs Pollard said donated items not sold on Saturday and Sunday have since been donated to local op shops, so the cycle of supporting locals in need continues.
Any items not claimed by the op shops was taken to the tip shop at Edward River Council’s Deniliquin waste depot.
The Navorina Auxiliary ladies will be back at it again this weekend, when the annual Navorina Charity Golf Day is held at the Deniliquin Golf Club.
The usual charity day format is four-person ambrose. Assembly is 11.30am for a 12 noon shotgun start.
The prize for the winning team is $400, and $200 for runners-up, with a ball competition and nearest the pin on all par three holes.
The $30 entry fee includes golf and a sausage sizzle. Raffle tickets will also be available for $2 each, or three for $5.
