Held last week, about 20 people attended including council staff, builders, developers, landowners, members of the manufacturing, banking and finance sectors and representatives of the Deniliquin Business Chamber.
Mayor Norm Brennan said as well as a change to progress earlier discussions, the round table was a chance for council to present its draft Industrial Land Strategy to the group.
‘‘Good progress was made at the meeting with attendees offering valuable contributions,’’ Cr Brennan said.
‘‘The main topic was council’s proposed Industrial Land Strategy and the future direction we as a community want to take to encourage investment in the region.
‘‘We heard from attendees that improvements to existing amenities in industrial areas such as roads and drainage need to prioritised, and we have taken that feedback on board.’’
The group has been invited to tour regional ‘off the grid’ businesses who are reducing their overheads by using alternative power.
‘‘That’s an exciting opportunity, to lower operating costs and we invite local manufacturing businesses to contact Michelle Cobb at council to join the tour, planned for June,’’ Cr Brennan said.
The next round table meeting is scheduled to be held on June 23.
Invitations will be sent to previous attendees, but other interested people and organisations are welcome to express their interest in joining the group.
‘‘Council shares the same goal as our ratepayers — we want to see more investment that leads to more employment and sustainable population growth,’’ Cr Brennan said.
