JUZTart founder Justine Martin was on hand for the day, sharing her knowledge of various art styles.
Justine is a Geelong based artist who took to art after being diagnosed with Remitting Relapsing Multiple Sclerosis in 2011.
She is well known for her interpretations of animals, with her bright, textured and bold pallet.
Her talent varies through the usage of different mediums, paintings, drawings and sculptures.
Mrs Whitham said Justine’s visit was a part of her ‘City to Country Art Relief’ program that she launched earlier this year.
‘‘The idea is to get city based artists to come to town and put on an art workshop for people in rural areas,’’ Mrs Whitham said.
‘‘The main reason I do this is to help with the mental health of those in drought stricken areas. Art is known to reduce stress and Justine is a prime example of this.
‘‘She was diagnosed with MS and turned to art to help her get through. Justine is a fantastic MS ambassador and we were so happy to have her here.’’
Mrs Whitham intends to enhance the reach of her program again to both Finley and Hay this year.
She hopes to one day take the program national, but said ‘‘I am only one person’’.
Due to a lung condition called Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Mrs Whitham is only capable of teaching small classes.
‘‘It’s all about being able to give back to the community,’’ she said.
‘‘I can’t put on a workshop by myself though so I need the support of the community.
‘‘I’ve been working with Intereach and want to also run Art Relief in Hay and Finley, so I’m hoping that can happen soon.’’
