The Proteas have qualified for the showpiece for the first time after winning eight of their 12 matches and will meet Pat Cummins' men at the home of cricket in June.
They currently have no Tests lined up before then and are already exploring the possibilities for a preparatory fixture - with a first-ever clash against Ireland among the options.
Head coach Shukri Conrad is planning to set up a base at Kent and has highlighted the two newest full-member nations as potential opponents.
"We're going to try and get a Test match, possibly in the UK, against Ireland or Afghanistan, whoever is free," Conrad told South African TV station SuperSport.
"If unsuccessful, we'll obviously go out a couple of days earlier and make sure we camp there really well, probably in Canterbury."
Captain Temba Bavuma is excited about the prospect of fighting for the title and believes his side has another level still to find.
"As much as we have got the success, I don't think we are a well-oiled machine. When you speak about the special factor within the team, it is our ability to find a way," he said.
"We are still on a journey and not close to playing 100 per cent. But there is something special brewing within the team and it will be scary when we are firing on all cylinders.
"We'll obviously have to adjust our processes for the conditions in England and obviously the opposition as well. But we'll stay true to that and we'll go out and fight. Whatever happens, we'll go out and fight."
